Bali”s Hinduism cultures so pervasiveness the traditional folktale fairly rare. Spiritual mythology dominates the story – telling of the ” DALANGS ” the shadow – puppet masters ” Wayang Kulit “. one of the reason is that Indian Hindu epics like The Ramayana and The Mahabharata provide such a wealth of material…..that ” whole family “finds entertaining and inspirational. and though the Dalang are highly talented ” Story Teller “, they views themselves firstly, in typical Balinese manner as Spiritual servants. They are very active and honored
maintainers of a present Spiritual tradition rather the archival artist of a charming past.
Nevertheless, some folktales are still – well known enough to inspire painting and carvings. They are thematically similar to famous European folktales, though this is not so surprising.Mythologists have discovered a universal language in folklore around the globe – a sign that for all the differences in cultural form, cultural values tend to be equally ” HUMAN “.

Balinese Dance

Balinese dance is one of the most famous dance form in the world.Part of the reason for this is the unique gamelan music, it is danced to.in fact the sonic dynamics of gamelan, play an influential role in creating the stylistic, movement of the dancers.Of course, each dance has it<s own specific musical accompaniment – but as gamelan is an almost totally percussive
music, composed of only 5 tones, the range and style of movement is likewise restrained. this create a necessary formality to the dancing, & thus the creation of particularly formal dances.
The apparent limitation of this is not a problem to the Balinese, however, Balinese dance is decided not about self – expression or free – form movement. it is firstly and fully a form of Spiritual expression – dancing for their Hindu Dewa – Dewi { Gods and Goddesses.}. Only to the degree that the dancers are able to connect with ” TAKSU ” { Spiritual energy } and manifest it in to their dance, is their dancing trustfully ” Balinese “. it is surrender to the form of the dance , rather than simply skillful performing, that allow this TAKSU to come throe. Of course, long, intense training & mastery of the form is generally required to get to that point of self – surrender. it is not ” magic trick ” , though the results can can certainly be tragical.
The dynamic tension & controlled jerkiness of much Balinese dance movement appears to be related to Indian Hindu temple dances. there the dances are designed to create the effect of the icons of The Dewa – Dewi coming to life. an icons is locked in pose & presumably would ” come to life ” by moving throe a series of poses…..creating a unique other – worldly dance form that combines the iconic with the human.
The dance then is essentially being dance by the Dewa – Dewi ……….. which is the ultimate aim of Balinese dance. This make it at it”s core, though wrapped in gorge’s costuming & artistically presented, a direct form of Spiritual service to n their rich traditional culture. Thus, off – stage Balinese dancers are expected to the ordinary & unassuming

The story bassicaly boils down to a batle between two demi – divineroyal families for the throne of a rich Rajadom in northern India. The Pandawas are the heroes, & their cousin, the Kurawas, are cast as the villains, though only Duryodana, their eldest son & thus leader , is actually villianous. His evil doing cause the problem eventually lead to all out war. Perhaps the real problem, though, is that both families are Ksatria – the warrior – ruling caste of Hinduism. And how do warrior tend to resolve their conflicts ?

Raja Bisma has two sons. The eldest Dristarata, was blind, so the younger Panduassumed the throne. when his five sons, known as Panca Pandawa , were grown , Pandu retired to the forest.thus began to dispute for the throne.

The Pandawa initially won – out, but the e4ldest brother, Yudistira, in foolish pride, gamble with Duryodana, who had mastered psychokinetic control of the clice. His cheating asurped the throne, and sent the Pandawasinto 12 adventures years of exile.Surviving Duryodana”s attemps on their lives, they returnet at the alloted time….but the villain typically refused to give them back the throne.

War become inevitable…….& with everyone possesing supernatural powers, The batle action was trully “out of this world ” ! Khrisna, The most beloved figure in Hinduism, fought for Pandawa, and with ” god-man” on the side of ” the good guys ” , how could they lose ?

In Bali, the gods and goddesses are called ” DEWA – DEWI “- a gods being a ” DEWA ” & goddesses a ” DEWI “.The Balinese religion used the Indian pantheon, though having adapted it o their own history, character & unique needs.
This pantheon is a packed pedestal for immortals……..reflecting Hinduism”s rich vision of Spiritual life. But the essential DEWA – DEWI are composed of two balanced trinities called Tri – Murtis : The Male group of BRAHMA, WISNU & SIWA., and their female consort and counterparts, Dewi Saraswati, Dewi Sri & Dewi Durga. These six cover all the basic aspects of existence. And that is the point of pantheon – it is a way of personalizing the relationship to the Divine. Each individual is likely to find a Dewa or a dewi that they most naturally & closely connect with….though over time that affinity may change. Since the Dewa – Dewi are all aspect of one Divine consciousnesses, called Brahman. { left unmanifest in Indian Hinduism }, but in Bali personified by the mysterious Sanghyang Widhi Wasa }. This system of worship is not in truth pantheism, but an effectively flexible from of Monotheism. As personifications, the Dewa – Dewi are ascribed human qualities, some less than admirable. But of course their life are presented on a much more grand & dramatic scale…which serve to provide many entertaining story – lesson for ” mere mortals ” Like all mythology, the stories are revealing without preaching. As India has the Himalaya
Bali has it”s own sacred seat of the Dewa – Dewi, Gunung Agung { Great Mountain } . The Balinese use it as a ” Chanel ” to Suarga, the heavenly realm where the Dewa – Dewi dwell. From there they bless & protect Bali & occasionally pay visit. The core of the complex Balinese religious is ” right alignment ” to the Dewa – Dewi via this sacred Channel.
For the inhabitants of ” The Island Of The Gods “ this spiritual practicum has worked well for 650 years. Thus, they maintain their rich tradition & their close personalities to the ” DEWA – DEWI “.

SPIRITUAL CULTURE

Spiritual culture is what makes BALI ” BALI “ In fact this famous ” island of the Gods ” has the last intact and still dominant. Spiritual culture in the world. It”s demise has been predicted by Westerners the entire 20 Th Century – yet as the millennium approaches, it remarkably remain vital and strong. The Balinese are obviously master of maintaining their traditions and traditional values which are all founded on and found in the exotic mix of their Spiritual culture.
It originated in Java circa 10 Th century, when Maharaja mixed Siva Hinduism and Mahayana Buddhism, both transported from India, Called ” Siva Buddha “, it also incorporated many elements of Java”s native shamanism. The unique spiritual culture it created reached it”s Javanese zenith in the mighty Majapahit Empire { from Maja – Pite }. But Sumatra and the rest of Java converted to Islam and drop the Majapahit out.In 1478 the Royal Court made the exodus to Bali which was part of the empire.
It turn out to be perhaps the most successful retreat in history ! In Bali the culture bloomed like a lotus.Though the rest of Indonesia become Muslim, remained and remains , intensely unique – uniquely Balinese.Being – a self – sufficient island certainly helped. But basically , the people value their Spiritual Culture and the “ fullness of life ” it provides, to the degree of devotion necessary to sustain it. it is their active Spirituality that continues to breathe life…to feel Spirit…into the Culture. and back into them.
Creative expression has always been natural and central element of this Spiritual culture. Historically wherever survival has been easy to achieve, Spirituality and artistry have flourished. Bali is a classic example – the free time and energy afforded by island”s fertility are the fertile inspiration of both. In fact, the Balinese language has no word for ” art , so native and ingrained it is in their SPIRITUAL CULTURE..

Though the famous Balinese culture is Eastern Spiritual , they are in fact very ” earthy” people. They love to lough, joke, work their rice field, eat every kind of meat, and the men drink alcohol, smoke and cook fighting is their favorite ” sport ” altogether, the Balinese are a complex paradox……that covers the full spectrum of human qualities.
The Spiritual culture mostly imported from India, but the ground level of element of Balinese life are a product of their native environment . The Balinese are hereditary Malays, the unique brown – skinned people of the Malay peninsula , who migrated-south and populated most of the Indonesian archipelago. The Malay are of Mysterious origin - one theory being that they are mix of South East Asian and Indians. Whatever the origin, a highly attractive people were produced – at once well – grounded and mystically – oriented { both Hinduism and Buddhism were welcome by the Malays – later Islam came and originally presented itself in its most mystical form of Sufism }. The first European explorers who came to Bali were so enchanted they did not want to leave……or event conquer it. and the long – time colonist of Indonesia, The Dutch, treated Bali with surprise respect.
As with many society, the Balinese strength lies first with family.the deepest root of this foundation child – rearing….a loving function at which the Balinese enthusiastically excel. and what is more expressive of life than happy children ? They playful presence and native exuberance a dominant feature on this well – populated parasitical island..
The majority of nearly 3 million people still live in the village-and the fertile land. It is the success of this simple agrarian society that has always allowed the exotic Spiritual and artistic culture to express itself fully. This positive and inseparable combination is what makes Balinese life altogether attractive

Negara’s famous Bull Races are in August
Negara – District Capital of Jembrana – Located on the south-western part of the Regency.

History :
This regency is thought to have been established in the early 1400′s, although civil war broke out and the regency became part of the Badung regency. In the 17th century, sparsely populated Jembrana was not of much interest to the other royal Balinese kingdoms and for a time it was ruled over by a prince from Sulawesi. Jembrana was one of the first kingdoms to surrender to the invading Dutch in the 1800′s.

Negara Town – A small town on set along the main road between Denpasar & Gilimanuk. Negara itself does not have many tourist sites although it is famous for the bull races, held every year in October. Domesticated water buffalo races and horse races attract a number of tourist as well as many Balinese. Jegog – the giant bamboo gamelan (orchestra) – is typical of Jembrana and is seldom heard outside the regency.

West Bali National Park – This Park is home to the rare Java Deer, the rarer Bali Starling and many other animals such as the Boss Javanicus, or wild bull.

Medewi Beach – Famous for surfing, the long left handers are best in the morning before the wind gets up. The beach itself is not fantastic. Tourist accommodation ranges from guesthouses to smarter hotels with pools.

Gilimanuk – Bali’s most western town, this is the ferrying point for people wishing to cross to Java. The tranquil bay is good for water sports and it is the closest place to stay if you wish to visit West Bali National Park.

Cekik – A village just south of Gilimanuk, with prehistoric remains
(Circa 1000BC) The headquarters of the National Park and visitors centre are located here.

Palasari Dam – The dam is good for water sports and the nearby village of Palasari is one of the few Catholic communities in Bali. The church is quite distinctive.

Candikusuma Beach – Large wide beach with views to Java. Very popular at weekends and holidays with the local community.

Baluk Rening Beach – This beach comes alive in August when the annual Jukung races take place. A western facing beach with good sunset views.

Perancak – A small village in which Bali’s renowned Buffalo racing is performed for tourists. A reptile park and a riverside temple are other Perancak sites.

Delod Berawah Beach – A popular beach with the occasional bull and horse race.

Rambut Siwi – One of Bali’s major cliff-top temples and the largest in west Bali. It was built in the 1500′s by the same priest that built both the Uluwatu and Tanah Lot temples. The sunset from this vantage point is outstanding.

Bunut Bolong – A sacred banyan grows over the road, or rather the road goes through this very large tree, up into the foothills of west Bali and towards Pupuan. The surrounding area is tropical forest and has many impressive trees

Pengambengan – The biggest fishing port on Bali, not an actual port but the here seas are at their calmest and there are no dangerous reefs.
