GODS & GODDESSES

In Bali, the gods and goddesses are called ” DEWA – DEWI “- a gods being a ” DEWA ” & goddesses a ” DEWI “.The Balinese religion used the Indian pantheon, though having adapted it o their own history, character & unique needs.
This pantheon is a packed  pedestal for immortals……..reflecting Hinduism”s rich vision of Spiritual life. But the essential DEWA – DEWI  are composed of two balanced trinities called Tri – Murtis : The Male group of BRAHMA, WISNU & SIWA., and their female consort and counterparts, Dewi Saraswati, Dewi Sri & Dewi Durga. These six cover all the basic aspects of existence. And that is the point of pantheon  – it is a way of personalizing  the relationship to the Divine. Each individual is likely to find a Dewa or a dewi  that they most naturally & closely connect  with….though over time that affinity may change. Since the Dewa – Dewi are all aspect of one Divine consciousnesses, called Brahman. { left unmanifest in Indian Hinduism }, but in Bali personified by the mysterious Sanghyang Widhi Wasa }. This system of worship is not in truth pantheism, but an effectively flexible from of Monotheism. As personifications, the Dewa – Dewi are ascribed human qualities, some less than admirable. But of course their life are presented on  a much more grand  & dramatic scale…which serve to provide many entertaining story – lesson for ” mere mortals ” Like all mythology, the stories are revealing without preaching. As India has the Himalaya
Bali has it”s own sacred seat of the Dewa – Dewi, Gunung Agung { Great Mountain } . The Balinese use it as a ” Chanel ” to Suarga, the heavenly realm where the Dewa – Dewi dwell. From there they bless & protect Bali & occasionally pay visit. The core of the complex Balinese religious is ” right alignment ” to the Dewa – Dewi via this sacred Channel.
For the inhabitants of ” The Island Of The Gods “  this spiritual practicum has worked well for 650 years. Thus, they maintain their rich tradition & their close personalities  to the ” DEWA – DEWI “.
